Derek has a very simple approach to ghost hunting and it’s very much based on the age old “Golden Rule.”

Approach

Treat others the way you would want to be treated. He believes that if spirits exist, then they should be respected and taken seriously. He does not engage in provoking in any way. All beings, wherever they fall on the existence spectrum, deserve to be treated with respect. Compassion and kindness are at the foundation of his approach.

From a methodological standpoint, he believes that the best evidence occurs when there are multiple tools substantiating an event. He often has tools for monitoring temperature, EMF, sound, and the visual environment deployed concurrently.

The entire field of paranormal research is speculative at best and is based on varying scientific and metaphysical theories. Apart from anecdotal evidence and felt experience, “evidence” is often misinterpreted and prone to confirmation bias. Derek is acutely aware of the theoretical nature of paranormal research but tries to pair reason and common sense with humility and an open-mind.
